A little background first: Like many ideas, this all started in Aunt Bessie's kitchen at the celebration of her 90th birthday. As a family gift, she received a hand decorated vase, created by her great neice (by marriage, Sam) which included messages of goodwill & felicitations on achieving this great landmark birthday. When Simon (formally the owner of leading North London independant record shop Terrapin Trucking) overheard a conversation in the kitchen, whilst helping his partner Helena (another relative) make tea, he couldn't contain his excitement. At last! he thought, someone who could help him achieve an idea which first came to him many months beforehand whilst he was working nights at a well known supermarket. Had he hopefully found someone who could hand paint and decorate......teapots?! and in particular a Gong Flying Teapot, as depicted on the famous Gong LP of the same name "Flying Teapot". Well after explaining his idea to Sam & managing to convince her that he was not a person who had drunk too much or was a sandwich short of a picnic, as they say - here we are.
